Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is our background and in our blood. We are passionate about young people being able to access the outdoors regardless of their geographical location, their background, financial or emotional situation. We value DofE for all young people as it helps develop qualities and values that many employers look for – self-discipline, motivation, commitment, determination and many more.

We work hard to ensure that our DofE programmes are bespoke to every school and we like to work closely with our clients to ensure that we’re delivering a tailored, value for money programme.

By some, our prices may be considered low and this has even put some people off, but we keep our costs down by not seeking to make a profit from our expeditions – this way we can make everything inclusive and affordable for everyone.

This DOES NOT mean we offer less than any other company. In fact as ex-teachers and DofE Managers, we often offer more.

How it works

June – July
BXM Expeditions receives dates from schools for expeditions in the following year and will arrange to come into the school to launch the DofE programme to students in assembly and conduct a parent’s information evening.

September – December
We spend the winter months sorting logistics and staffing for your expeditions. This is when final numbers are confirmed and participant information sent over to the BXM HQ.

Expeditions are ongoing until October, this is also when our final open expeditions happen where participants who have missed their school expeditions can join to complete their award.

Parent’s information evenings and launch assemblies also take place during this time.

January – early March
BXM Expeditions will send out all final expedition details and safeguarding information for the school. During this time, we also deliver the training days for the impending expeditions for the year ahead.

Late March – July
This is the bulk of the expedition season and typically where most expeditions take place. Bronze expeditions often take place between April and May with practice expeditions in April and qualifying in May.

Silver expeditions often take place in March – June with practice expeditions in March and qualifying expeditions in June.

Gold expeditions often take place at the end of the academic year with practice expeditions in June and qualifying expeditions on July.

This is a ‘typical’ school journey and by no means does it have to happen this way. Each school is different and we will tailor programmes to the schools needs to ensure the award is accessible to all.

We are passionate about the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and we can even subsidise some school places in some circumstances to ensure maximum participation.

We also run some of the largest Open Expeditions in the UK. If your group is 10 people or more, we will happily sort an expedition to fit your dates. Please see our list of open expeditions.

I have only good things to say about BXM. They are flexible and certainly put the needs of the school and participant at the forefront. I have been on 6-7 expeditions at both Gold and Silver and I can vouch for the quality of their instructors and assessors. They are all high calibre individuals who obviously love their job and exude confidence, knowledge and an affinity with the participants.
